Southwest Mallorca

Coastal Mallorca at its most established, connected and internationally oriented.

Green 10, Real Golf de Bendinat

Southwest Mallorca follows the coast from Portals Nous and Bendinat through Santa Ponça, El Toro, Peguera and Camp de Mar to Andratx, Port d’Andratx and Sant Elm. It combines some of the island’s most sophisticated residential enclaves with beaches, marinas, golf and unusually easy access to Palma.

Coastal living without sacrificing connectivity.

Who chooses the Southwest

This is often the most straightforward part of Mallorca for an international buyer to adopt as a permanent or second-home base. It suits families, frequent travellers and owners who want the Mediterranean outside the door while retaining restaurants, schools, sports facilities and everyday services nearby.

For families, the educational infrastructure is a genuine advantage rather than a marketing abstraction. Agora Portals is located in Portals Nous, while Baleares International College operates its Sa Porrassa campus in Calvià and another campus in Sant Agustí, close to Palma.

Sea, sport and everyday life

The lifestyle is strongly nautical. Puerto Portals, Port Adriano and Port d’Andratx anchor different parts of the coast; golf, sailing, swimming, cycling and racket sports are readily integrated into everyday life. Port Adriano sits on the southwest side of the Bay of Palma, while Andratx combines its coastline with immediate access to the foothills of the Tramuntana.

The individual locations nevertheless feel very different. Portals and Bendinat are convenient and close to Palma; Santa Ponça provides broader year-round residential infrastructure; Camp de Mar is smaller and quieter; Port d’Andratx is more dramatic, more topographical and considerably farther west.

Connections and practicalities

From the airport, allow approximately 15–25 minutes for Portals/Bendinat, 25–35 minutes for Santa Ponça or Port Adriano and around 35–45 minutes for Port d’Andratx, subject to traffic. Port Adriano itself advises approximately 30 minutes from the airport.

Eastern parts of the Southwest also have convenient access to Porto Pi in Palma for larger-scale shopping; specialist healthcare and most city-level professional services remain concentrated around Palma. Porto Pi is on the western side of the capital, making it considerably more practical from Bendinat or Portals than from Andratx.

What to understand before buying

The Southwest is convenient, but it is neither uniformly quiet nor uniformly beautiful. Parts are densely developed, traffic increases substantially in summer and some addresses are distinctly resort-oriented.

Topography is another important consideration. The sea view that attracts a buyer can also mean steep access, numerous stairs, retaining structures or exposure to neighbouring villas. Here, the correct street and orientation can matter more than the name of the municipality.
